After receiving final planning permission to go ahead with construction work for next year's British Grand Prix, Donington Park bosses have revealed that the Derbyshire venue will continue to be developed from August onwards as the track prepares to host its second F1 race and first since the European Grand Prix of 1993.

After news on Friday revealed that Donington Park Ventures Ltd, shareholders of the circuit, had received final planning permission from the local council, the head of the project is now ready to recommence with building action. "It's been a lot of hard work up until this point," Simon Gillett told Eurosport. "It has been like pushing water uphill with a fork occasionally, but the team here are fantastic and we have got clarity of vision and the support of all the right people, so here we are."
The complex will have received a large cosmetic makeover by the time F1 arrives in 2010, with the famous Dunlop Bridge having already been removed earlier in the year. "The (current) pit and paddock was built over one winter and we are doing a similar kind of thing, just on a slightly larger scale," Gillett continued to explain. "We were hoping to have started a bit earlier but, as I've said, we had a problem with our funding source at the time, that's put us back; we'll be resolving our funding by the end of July and then we will start putting forks in the ground on 1 August."
