The leader of the Spanish Automobile Association is backing Max Mosley to continue as president of the FIA. As Formula One's governing body remains in a dispute with the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA), Carlos Gracia understands the predicament currently facing Mosley.
With each country connected with the FIA linked by its own automobile association, Gracia is the first to speak out over the comments made by FOTA, which suggested a successful ousting of Mosley this year. "I don't fully support Max Mosley, but I do support respecting institutions," Spaniard Gracia told radio broadcaster Onda Cero. With Mosley furious last week over the reaction of FOTA after a meeting between the teams and the FIA, Gracia agrees with the federation president's view over the actions of the FOTA chairman. "What Luca di Montezemolo has done was show a lack of respect to the FIA and the World Council," Gracia continued.

"It wouldn't surprise me if Max Mosley stands to be re-elected. The worst thing one can do with an animal is leave it wounded and what di Montezemolo has achieved is to re-activate Max - you cannot dance on someone's grave before he is dead."
With Mosley having already admitted that he desires a move into retirement in the foreseeable future, Gracia has been tipped as a possible successor to the Englishman. "I'm not ruling out running for presidency of the FIA," he freely admitted. "I believe that Max Mosley has a lot of support and I would think twice before running against him because I don't want to take any risks that may damage Spanish motorsport. Primarily, I am the president of the Spanish Federation and I have to defend Spanish sport."
