Goodwood hosts Festival of Speed

03 July 2009

The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed begins on Friday as a range of motorsport memorabilia is placed on show to the public and surrounded by a choice selection of personalities from the world of motor racing. With a tribute for Williams being one of this year's highlights, five other F1 teams will also be attending the event in West Sussex.

With Williams showcasing a particularly special display as it celebrates its 40th year of existence the Brawn, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and Toyota teams will all be joining in at Goodwood until Sunday.

As F3 Euro Series driver Sam Bird steers Damon Hill's 1996 title-winning Williams up the famous hill, reigning Champion Lewis Hamilton will be getting behind the controls of the 1988 McLaren MP4/4 - the most successful F1 car in history, which claimed all but one of the Grand Prix victories on offer and was driven by Ayrton Senna to that year's championship title. Lewis will also be piloting his own championship-winning car of 2008.

Representing their own teams will also be championship leader Jenson Button, Timo Glock and Mark Webber and - as well as Hamilton and Hill - Champions John Surtees, Jackie Stewart and Alan Jones will be available for discussions and autograph signings.
