Kovalainen hails 'great' circuit

04 July 2009

Heikki Kovalainen is enthusiastic about getting onto the track at the Nürburgring for the first time in two years. The Finn, who scored a point for Renault at his first Grand Prix at the circuit in 2007, is hoping to put on a strong showing in front of the thousands of Mercedes employees who will be present.

With engine manufacturer Mercedes-Benz celebrating its home race next weekend, Heikki is looking forward to exiting the Nürburgring pit lane in a McLaren for the first time. "The Nürburgring is a great circuit," he said. "It's got a variety of different corners; some are quite tricky, technical sections that need a good flowing rhythm and others are faster bends where the car needs to be well set up. Cresting the rise through the uphill Esses after the hairpin just feels fantastic in a Formula One car."

Although the team is enduring a difficult season, Heikki's gratitude to all those who have contributed is clear to see. "Coming to Germany is the perfect time to pay tribute to the efforts of everyone at Mercedes-Benz," he continued. "Their engines are probably the most powerful and most reliable in the sport and their KERS is also fantastic; Mercedes-Benz has played such a big role in the success of our team, so I'm really hoping to have a strong race in front of all our supportive fans at our second home race of the season."
