A team not accepted for entry to the 2010 World Championship has said that it was told to make use of Cosworth engines only, it has been revealed. With new entrants Campos, Manor and USF1 all making use of the English manufacturer's powerplants, the supposed obligation has not been confirmed by governing body the FIA.
Although no official rule on the engine supplier for next year's new teams has been unveiled, an anonymous team boss of one of those not selected for entry by the FIA has explained that Cosworth was the only option given.

'Just before entering the meeting (with the governing International Automobile Federation [FIA] in London on June 11), I was advised...that for my application to have any chance of success, I would need to report Cosworth as my engine supplier for three seasons,' reads a letter - seen by Reuters - which was sent to a current team owner two Fridays ago.
'I commented that I had a real possibility of obtaining a Renault, Mercedes or Ferrari engine. It was made very clear to me that it was considered a 'mandatory' condition from the powers-that-be that Cosworth was the engine supplier. During the selection week, I had people on the phone telling me the three teams that would be selected. I did not believe this but on Friday when it happened I was dumbfounded.'
