Former World Rally Champion Ari Vatanan is believed to be interested in taking the reigns at the FIA once current president Max Mosley stands down from his post. With the governing body having been involved in much wrangling with teams this year, Vatanan feels that the career change would be in matching with the FIA's current objectives.

A string of forceful comments has been passed between the FIA and the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) this year as both parties look to find a true solution to a number of disagreement. "At the moment I am consulting the member clubs and am already seeing positive feedback," Finn Vatanen, WRC Champion of 1981, told Reuters.

"I am considering standing - I think the time has come for a change. I would go for it, even if I'm not sure of winning." With teams persuading Mr. Mosley to step down from his role at the end of his current term in October, the FIA leader has already admitted that retirement is a favourable option. Vatanen can also boast experience in the politcal world, having recently stood down as a member of the European Parliament.

"I am under pressure now from all over the world to stand for re-election," said Mosley, whose presidency is elected by the various automobile groups in those countries representing the FIA. The 69-year-old has already expressed his desire to move into retirement, providing conflict ceases between the FIA and outside parties such as FOTA.
