'Good Friday' for Force India despite shunt

10 July 2009 / Results / Photos

Adrian Sutil was satisfied to have achieved a top six position in Friday practice for the German Grand Prix, finishing just over four tenths of a second off leader Lewis Hamilton's pace at the Nürburgring. Having recovered from a gearbox problem in the morning, Adrian is hoping for a positive result in his home race this weekend.

Gearbox problems during first practice left Sutil on the sidelines and in last place although team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella impressed with a top five result; there was a change in fortunes later on in the day, however, as the German made P6 as his Italian team-mate crashed into the barriers at Kumho Kurve.

"It was a good Friday for us that showed some real improvements from previous weekends," said Sutil. "Sixth was a good effort from the team and it felt quite good but I think it will be difficult to get into the top ten tomorrow - but I do feel a good Q2 performance would be realistic." The 26-year-old was also able to see the funny side of the 'typical Eifel weather!' which saw the session's progress slowed by rain.

"It's difficult for the hard tyres to warm up but we'll play with the strategy tomorrow to try and make it work for us," continued team-mate Fisichella. "I think it was about right for the team today, with both drivers in the top six in either session; the first session for me was quite good with a promising position, but it was quite disappointing in the afternoon - I caught a kerb that was still wet and just spun into the barriers. I think I could have done well in the second session, but it looks encouraging for another Q2 tomorrow."
