Sebastian Vettel was happy to have recovered to second place, ahead of both the championship-leading Brawn GP cars and team-mate Mark Webber, in Friday practice at the Nürburgring. Victim of a suspected electrical problem in the morning, the 22-year-old jumped up to second place behind Lewis Hamilton.
After enjoying the three-week break between races and celebrating his birthday last Thursday, Vettel experience a day of mixed results in which 44 laps of his home Grand Prix's circuit were completed and the disadvantage of the morning session was overcome.

"We had a problem in the morning, when the engine cut off in Turn 1, so we lost quite a lot of track time," the winner of the Chinese and British Grand Prix explained. "Thankfully, it was dry again this afternoon so the overall loss was not that big; it was quite tricky this afternoon as the circuit was still very slippery, making it hard to get a good lap and tyre choice seems to be very crucial here.
"On top of that, the wind is very heavy and is playing some tricks, especially during braking in the last sector, but I think we have a good car so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Obviously, we still have plenty of work to do - we've done a lot of testing today so we will look now at what's best in order to be well prepared for qualifying."
