Timo Glock has been relegated to the back of the German Grand Prix grid for holding up the Renault of Fernando Alonso during the second phase of qualifying on Saturday. Glock, who slowed after the chicane, prevented the Renault driver from completing a flying lap on the limit.

With Alonso due to go fastest and losing time to the Toyota through the final corner, the Spaniard was clearly seen to gesticulate madly to race control for the local driver's actions, which were later deemed as 'potential dangerous' by the FIA-appointed stewards; Glock has been handed with a three-place penalty although no major affect will be experienced, having only qualified 19th out of the 20 runners.

"I had just made a mistake on the lap and I was asking if I had to stay out or come in for new tyres," Timo explained to Autosport. "They said to stay out so I accelerated, looked behind me and there was Alonso in the mirror - I just didn't see him."
