A highly pleased Felipe Massa finished on the rostrum at the Nürburgring on Sunday, returning to the podium for the first time since last year and at the track on which the Brazilian had first achieved a top three position behind Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso in 2006.

With last year's season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix having been the last in which Felipe Massa achieved a podium result, the 2008 runner-up was made up to have returned to the top three in Germany after finishing a strong fourth in Britain three weeks ago. "It was a fantastic race!" the Ferrari driver said in the post-race press conference. "I had a good start and passed many cars. I struggled a lot at the beginning with my tyres but managed to stay in front of Sebastian Vettel."

With the tyre issue threatening to drop the 28-year-old back into the pack, an efficient pit strategy coupled with sensible driving allowed Felipe to retain a top position. "I managed to put in a good pace with the second set of tyres," he explained. "That was very important - to have had a good pace in that stint. I am very happy! Everyone in the team did a good job on the strategy.

"A good result like this will motivate our team to keep working, pushing hard and prepare a good car for the end of the championship as well as a great car for next year."
