No points on promising day for Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton was highly disappointed to have walked away from the German Grand Prix without a single point after enjoying the McLaren team's best qualifying session of the season on Saturday. Sneaking briefly into the lead at the first corner, a puncture ended all hope of scoring at the Nürburgring.

With fifth on the grid converting to the lead of the race at the Castrol hairpin, Lewis Hamilton immediately fell back as a puncture occurred at the second corner. "My race was effectively over at Turn 1," the Champion said later on. "I had quite a good launch down to Turn 1 and was braking when I felt a tap from the rear and went straight on.

"I think the flat tyre had damaged the rear floor and it felt like I was out there driving on ice. I suggested to the team that we save the engine and gearbox for the future because there's a lot more potential ahead of us than we'd anticipated before this weekend."

With rain a possibility, though, the team elected to keep their driver on the track in a race where Heikki Kovalainen scored a single point in the second MP4-24. "That's racing and we'll move on," Lewis continued of his bad day. "The best thing about this weekend was that our updates were successful - the team has done a fantastic job over the last few weeks and I'm already looking forward to the next race."
