A fan of the Nürburgring, Räikkönen was likely to be keen on leaving the circuit after, like in Spain, pulling out of the race with mechanical problems. "I don't know exactly, but it was some issue with the engine," he told the BBC. "I had a loss of power and then I had to stop because the engine would have broken down anyway - it's a shame."
His race also featured a clash with the Force India of Adrian Sutil, breaking the German's front wing endplate and throwing away any chance of points. "I tried to go around the outside," the 2007 World Champion explained to Spanish reporters of his move when Sutil exited the pits. "We were racing for the position, I tried to go around him, I had nowhere to go and we touched - that's racing."
