Up and down race for Toyota

12 July 2009 / Results / Photos

The Toyota drivers had race of contrasting fortunes at the Nürburgring on Sunday, although both Timo Glock and Jarno Trulli failed to score points in the German Grand Prix. As the former rose to ninth from a pit lane start in his home race, team-mate Jarno Trulli dropped to the rear of the field after a first corner collision.

For Glock, a poor qualifying result of 19th on Saturday soon became 20th on Sunday after holding up the Renault of Fernando Alonso during qualifying and being penalised as a result. "In general, I am reasonably satisfied with my performance today because I started from the pit lane and finished ninth on a track where overtaking is very difficult," explained Timo, who started from the pits as opposed to 20th on the grid.

"We had a good strategy after what happened in qualifying yesterday but unfortunately I had some traffic in the first stint which cost me time. I only had around four laps without traffic all day but when I had a clear track I was quick." Team-mate Trulli had begun his race from 14th after the dramatic, rain-affected qualifying session although chances of points disappeared after Turn 1.

"The race was over for me at the first corner," said Pescara-born Jarno. "There were several cars fighting for position but I suddenly saw another car go past me and jump over my front wing because there was no space; I couldn't see that part of my wing but I could feel there was something wrong so I came in and the team changed it. After that, the car felt good but unfortunately as soon as I caught up with the field I was always stuck in traffic and couldn't do anything."
