With a third place for Felipe Massa at the Nürburgring, the Ferrari team closed in on the non-scoring Toyota in its quest to overhaul the Japanese marque for third in the constructors' championship. After a bad start to the year, the reigning Champions now hope to equal their finishing position of four years ago.

With its worst year since the turn of millennium being 2005, in which the team finished third in the championship, Ferrari is again hoping to clinch a top three spot this season after suffering from its worst start since the early 1980s. Despite closing in on Toyota, however, the Italian outfit soon plans to switch its efforts to next year's car.
"We have already started some work on the new project and in the next couple of weeks we will basically shift off to the new project in order to make sure we do not lose any time," explained team principal Stefano Domenicali. "We know that next season will be crucial and we definitely want to start with a different pace compared to this year, so it is a matter of days rather than weeks."
Although an engine cooling problem led to retirement for Kimi Räikkönen, Massa's podium finish was his first and the team's second of the season. "At least I am positive and happy with the result but we need to keep our feet on the ground because the others are not sleeping, the others are turning things around," a realistic Domenicali continued. "Look at what we have seen this weekend with Renault, McLaren and Force India."
