Johnny Herbert was back behind the wheel of a British Touring Car Championship car on Monday as the series' official test session got underway at Rockingham. The Romford driver, who drove Team Dynamics' Honda Civic at Goodwood two weekends ago, is now considering a race drive in the popular championship.

Having entertained the mass crowds at the Festival of Speed, Herbert joined regular Dynamics drivers James Thompson and David Pinkney at the Northamptonshire track as the BTCC enjoyed the test session amid its 7-week summer break. "That was great fun and I've seen what these lads get up to during a race so who knows - let's see…" said 45-year-old Johnny of his possibilities of joining the fray. "Foremost, this was just to sample the car after the team asked me at Goodwood if I could do a bit of running to help with development."
After clinching three Grand Prix wins in Formula One, Herbert retired at the end of 2000 but has since gone on to win the legendary Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race and last year clinched the title in the now defunct Speedcar series.
Herbert finished Monday 12th fastest and just under a second down on the best time, set by former double Champion Thompson. "This was my first time on track in a BTCC race car, let alone a front-wheel drive racing car, but I'm very impressed with its performance and also the BTCC paddock setup as a whole," he added.
