Schumacher completes karting event

07 August 2009

Michael Schumacher's comeback preparation continues to progress as the German completed a karting stint on Thursday. The seven-time World Champion, who is attempting to build up as much neck muscle strength as possible, drove the kart at the Lonato venue near Italy's Lake Garda.

With Schumacher hoping to fill the breach for the injured Felipe Massa in Valencia, the previously ultra-fit Schumacher remains out of optimum shape himself after a motorcycle accident in February; the German is awaiting results of medical tests to discover whether or not his damaged neck muscles can withhold the distance of the 57-lap European Grand Prix.

"We had two very good days of karting in Lonato," said Michael. "Luca (Badoer, Ferrari reserve driver) and I could exploit the time well." The German concentrated on building up his arms, upper body, shoulders and neck before labelling the driving as 'excellent practice'.

"I really would like to thank Roberto Robazzi and his Tonykart team who, as always, prepare only the best conditions for us," Schumacher added. "What was especially nice for me was that Corinna had joined me for those days - it was our wedding anniversary (Wednesday) and we celebrated it with a nice dinner in the evening. Over the next few days I will keep practicing at home."
