Karthikeyan aiming for F1 seat in 2010

12 August 2009

Narain Karthikeyan is hoping that the arrival of new teams will open doors to re-enter Formula One next season. With Campos, Manor, USF1 and a likely replacement for BMW joining the grid, the sport's only ever Indian driver is looking to race for the first time in half a decade.

Karthikeyan has driven in just the 19-race 2005 season to date with a best result of fourth coming in the six-car American Grand Prix at Indianapolis. Since his days at Jordan-Toyota the Chennai driver, who is now 32, has spent time testing for Williams as well as racing in A1 Grand Prix and the Le Mans Series.

"I am still young and I believe I have a couple more years to make it again," he told India's IANS agency. "My managers are obviously looking for opportunities - there are more seats available next year - but that is all I can say at the moment."

Narain did not confirm if any particular team stands out but did explain how he will be contacting various outfits. "I am not directly, but hopefully through my managers," he continued. "There is a recession on in the US, so the budgets are low; I have no plans for driving in the US as I have the Le Mans Series and A1GP to do besides hoping to get back to Formula One."
