Alguersuari slowed by higher temperatures

Jaime Alguersuari's latest challenge in his young Formula One career was to cope with 45°C (113°F) track temperatures in Valencia on Friday. The Spaniard, who drives in his home country for only his second Grand Prix, wound up nineteenth quickest in practice.

With Renault's Fernando Alonso pleasing Spanish crowds by seizing the top spot in afternoon practice on the street circuit, Alguersuari continued to adapt to the differences between Formula One and World Series by Renault cars. "The heat was an important factor for me today as I have not had that much time in a Formula One car yet and the high temperatures made things worse from that point of view," Jaime admitted.

"The day's work went quite well and we made good progress, even if we went a bit far on setup changes in the morning which meant that, as track conditions changed in the afternoon, our performance didn't really get better. We need to improve the car and I need to drive better on the Option tyre (softer of the two compounds on offer, this weekend being Super Soft, and indicated by a green sidewall).

"Not a bad first day overall," Alguersuari summer up, although team-mate Sébastien Buemi had an even worse experience with heat as rising cockpit temperatures resulted in burns to the Swiss driver's right foot.
