Fernando Alonso has shaken off Friday's practice collision with the BMW of Nick Heidfeld as a 'normal' type of incident. Contact between the German and Alonso's Renault saw the former almost roll as the Spaniard went on to set the fastest time of the day.
It was an overall constructive day for Fernando Alonso on Friday as the local hero set a best lap time of 1:39.404 to lead the way in Spain ahead of Saturday's qualifying session for the European Grand Prix. "It was a positive day for us with some good laps and the car performed well right from the start of the first session," the 2005 and 2006 World Champion said after the second practice period.

"We worked on the setup throughout the day and now we're pretty much happy with what we have so I think we are in good shape for the rest of the weekend." The car was not in good shape following the Turn 25 collision, however, as Alonso lost his front wing before spinning alone minutes later.
"The incident with Nick Heidfeld this afternoon was a normal incident that can happen during racing or free practice," Fernando described plainly. "For tomorrow, we will try our best to get on the front row of the grid with the objective of scoring points on Sunday."
