Alguersuari on back row for race in Spain

Jaime Alguersuari may not have been present at the Spanish Grand Prix this year, having only been signed as Toro Rosso's second driver before Budapest, but the Spaniard is pleased to be driving in his home country for this weekend's European Grand Prix. The 19-year-old claims to be more positive as the learning curve lengthens.

19th on the grid leaves teenager Jaime ahead of only Luca Badoer's Ferrari for the start of Sunday's race although the Barcelona man is remaining realistic. "I know what I am capable of and, with this being only my second F1 qualifying session, I have to be patient," he said in Valencia.

"I am happy that, even though this track is longer than at my first race in Hungary, the gap to the drivers ahead of me is getting smaller. I am feeling more confident in the car every time I drive it."

Jaime admitted on Friday that, with air temperatures in the region of 30°C and the track surface at least ten more than that, the weather can play a vital role in affecting on-track performances. "It's going to be tough tomorrow as it seems to be getting hotter and hotter," he added. "I think I can do a good job in the race, bring the car home and hopefully end up at least in the top fifteen."
