Jenson Button was delighted to see Brawn GP team-mate Rubens Barrichello claim his first victory of the season in the European Grand Prix on Sunday. The Brazilian's first win since late 2004 means the two white cars now lock-out the top two places in the Drivers' World Championship standings.

With Barrichello having started the race from third on the grid, a swift and tactically perfect race allowed the Brazilian to overhaul both McLaren drivers, who had qualified alongside each other on the front row. "Rubens did a great job this weekend and he deserves the victory," Button, who finished seventh, told the BBC after the race. "It's been a long time for him, five years - I'm happy for him."

Button's championship lead decreased yet again this weekend, albeit by only half a point on this occasion. "We did what we came to do, in a way," he continued. "We came to beat the Red Bulls and claw back a couple of points on a circuit that our car suits.

"I didn't expect my team-mate to finish so far in front of me, so that is something I have got to solve in the next race. It's been a tough weekend for Red Bull but we are going to a circuit where they will be very quick (Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium); I've gained a couple of points on Mark, which is good, but I've lost a lot of points to my team-mate."
