Force India smiling after European GP
23 August 2009 / Results / PhotosForce India's first top eight result may still elude it but team owner Vijay Mallya was delighted to witness a top ten finish for Adrian Sutil with Giancarlo Fisichella only two places further back in Sunday's Grand Prix of Europe. Indian Mallya is now firm in the belief that championship points can be scored before the end of the year.

Having stated pre-season that he would be disappointed not to score before the fifth round of 2009 in Barcelona, the Silverstone team's Valencia result is made all the more remarkable when remembering the fact that the Mercedes-powered VJM002 did not make an on-track appearance until February.
"Overall, it's been a strong performance for us all weekend and probably our most competitive race in two seasons," said Kingfisher supremo Mallya. "The upgrades we introduced this race have clearly given us a big step forward and we're now really mixing it in the midfield positions."
"Today was a good performance with no mistakes, good lap times and we showed a clear step forward," added Sutil, who drove a car which has just received its most important aerodynamics revision of the year. "I think tenth was the maximum we could do from 12th position on the grid; it was a very tough race, very hot, but everything worked perfectly."
