Fisichella thanks Force India for opportunity

03 September 2009

Giancarlo Fisichella has expressed his gratitude to the Force India team after it was announced on Thursday that the Italian would be joining Ferrari for the rest of the season. The Roman will compete with the Scuderia for the final five races of the year and leaves Force India having been with the outfit since its founding.

After entering Formula One in 1996 with Minardi, Fisichella will finally achieve his life-long dream of driving with Ferrari at his home Grand Prix at Monza next weekend as the Maranello team introduces its fourth driver of the season.

"I am very grateful to Vijay Mallya (Force India co-owner) for allowing me this opportunity to drive for the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro team," Fisichella commented. "It is true that it has always been an ambition to do this and for Vijay to have allowed it to become a reality is very generous.

"I hope in my turn I have helped Force India grow up and be on the right path to achieve their own ambitions. They are now a very competitive team and I wish them all the very best." Giancarlo scored Force India's first points and podium finish at Spa on Sunday by finishing second to now-team-mate Kimi Räikkönen in the Belgian Grand Prix.
