Ousted Toro Rosso driver Sébastien Bourdais celebrated a victory on his debut weekend in the Superleague Formula on Sunday. The Frenchman, who was sacked from the Italian Toro Rosso following the German Grand Prix, not only won the weekend's final in Portugal but picked up a cool €100,000 (£87,500) in prize money.

Bourdais lost his Formula One drive after one and a half seasons this year when Toro Rosso announced the Le Mans pilot's departure in favour of Jaime Alguersuari.

Bourdais silenced his critics at the weekend, however, by winning on his first weekend in the series which sees teams represented by football teams.

"It's great to be back on the top of the podium," Sébastien said at Estoril after taking the chequered flag for Sevilla FC in the weekend final, which sees the highest six scoring drivers from the race meeting compete for the win. "It's been a roller coaster ride this weekend but it doesn't matter what car you are driving when you win."
