Toyota's start to the weekend in Italy came in disastrous fashion as Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock, like in Monaco qualifying, languished at the back of the field at Monza. Fortunes changes during the afternoon session, though, as the pairing rose to sixth spots and thirteenth on what Jarno Trulli believes was a generally normal day.
One of three Italian drivers in the field, Pescara's Trulli is racing in his home Grand Prix this season. It looked as though a 2002-esque rise from the back of the grid may have been required after first practice although Jarno remains positive.

| Trulli encountered no major bother with the new Monza combination kerbs |
"That was a typical Friday for me and it went smoothly, with no problems," he explained after practice. "As usual, we tested the two different tyres (Medium and Soft) and also worked on setting up the car. We made some improvements from first practice so in the afternoon I was happier with the car.
"We still have some work to do to improve and get the best out of it around this track, so we will look at all the data to improve the setup for qualifying. Today we also experienced the new kerbs at the chicanes for the first time and these seem to be okay, I had no problem with them. It's nice to be back in Italy, driving in front of my home fans, and I just hope I can have a good race on Sunday."
