Dismal Saturday for Williams

12 September 2009 / Results / Photos

The Williams team endured a highly disappointing qualifying session in Italy to see its two cars occupying the positions on the penultimate row of the starting grid. On a weekend when team owner Sir Frank Williams is present, chances of scoring points in dry conditions will be difficult.

Not only were both Williams eliminated in Q1 for the first time this season but Kazuki Nakajima also out-qualified team-mate Nico Rosberg, who has scored points in the last eight races.

"I started to find a bit more competitiveness during qualifying today and we made all the right decisions, such as choosing the soft tyre, but I didn't manage to put the ideal lap together as the car has not been at its best all weekend," German Rosberg explained.

"Although we had a tough time with the car last race and we will struggle a lot here this weekend, I am convinced that things will improve for Singapore and we will be back where we were in Valencia." Nico's best Monza result to date is sixth in 2007.
