Mallya: Liuzzi will finish the season

12 September 2009

While former Force India driver Giancarlo Fisichella moved to Ferrari for the remainder of the season to fulfil a lifetime dream, fellow countryman Vitantonio Liuzzi gets the chance to return to the Formula One grid this weekend with Force India. According to team boss Vijay Mallya, Liuzzi will finish the season for them alongside team-mate Adrian Sutil.

When asked if Liuzzi's job as the team's driver is safe for the final five races of the season, Vijay Mallya replied in Friday's press conference: "Absolutely, he's okay for the next five races and maybe even beyond.

"He knows that he needs to perform as well. We've done all we can to produce a car that's now getting competitive and, as the driver, he also has to deliver his part of it and he knows that.

"This game is unpredictable in more ways than one, and there aren't any guarantees attached to either a car or a driver, but I think I would say that I'm quite happy and quite optimistic that the cars will go well and both drivers will do well."

Liuzzi completed his last Formula Grand Prix back in 2007 for Scuderia Toro Rosso, finishing thirteenth at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
