No penalty for Hamilton after Buemi incident

12 September 2009

FIA-appointed race stewards have ruled that World Champion and Italian Grand Prix pole winner Lewis Hamilton will receive no punishment following an on-track near-miss with Sébastien Buemi in qualifying on Saturday.

With Buemi eventually qualifying 19th, the Swiss driver lost the opportunity to complete one lap when Hamilton, who was exiting the pit lane, failed to yield on the run to the Rettifilo Chicane.

With the McLaren just off the apex of the first corner and Buemi travelling at full racing speeds and prepared to turn in, the latter was forced to miss the corner.

As well as handing no time penalty to Hamilton, stewards also cleared an incident between the Red Bull of Mark Webber and Force India of Vitantonio Liuzzi.
