13 September 2009 / Results / PhotosFernando Alonso enjoyed a fruitful race to rise from eighth to fifth place at Monza. The Renault driver, double World Champion of 2005 and 2006, did not experience a good start but completed a lonely afternoon successfully to pick up four important World Championship points.

Alonso's climb to 20 points in total sees the Spaniard move ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and into the top ten of the Drivers' Championship. "I'm very happy with the result today, although at the start the KERS did not meet my expectations," he admitted, having also nearly made contact with Vitantonio Liuzzi.
"In the race I had good pace; the car behaved perfectly and our strategy worked well. Finishing in fifth position is a good result but the objective for the rest of the season is a podium or even a victory."
