Championship leader Jenson Button had feared losing positions at the start of the Italian Grand Prix although the championship leader in fact moved up one spot from sixth on the grid. A bad start from Heikki Kovalainen allowed Button to achieve an eventual return to the podium for the first time since early June.
Incredibly, before Monza Button's win in the Turkish Grand Prix was also the last time the Englishman stood on the podium. However, Kovalainen's poor getaway and a near coming-together between Liuzzi and Alonso off the start line all combined to assist Frome's Button on Sunday.

"It was a messy lap but I made up a position, which was fantastic," Jenson said in the post-race press conference. "You're always wary at the start because of KERS cars but Alonso didn't get the jump and 'Kovy' was struggling - he braked late and these two (Barrichello and Räikkönen) nearly came together!
As championship rivals Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel endured a retirement and one eighth place finish for Red Bull, Button held off World Champion Lewis Hamilton to come home second to team-mate Rubens Barrichello.
"Lewis started pushing in the last three laps," recalled Button, who held the gap at around 1.5 seconds. "I had him pretty much covered - it's very difficult to pass here, even with KERS. I don't know what happened but it was a big shunt for him and a great result for me."
