The Sauber team and new owner Qadbak both hope and expect to remain as part of the Formula One line-up for 2010. The team was pipped to the post on Tuesday as Lotus' entry took the thirteenth and final spot on the grid for next season although the FIA is now trying its upmost to allow an extra team to take part.
With Malaysian-backed Lotus set to race in F1 for the first time in 15 years, the FIA has confirmed the newly-owned Sauber as the 14th team although, with only 13 spots currently open for 2010, the governing body must now receive written permission from all entrants in order to grant Qadbak its place, which would boost the grid to 28 cars.
'We are pleased to confirm that the FIA has indicated that we may have a place in the 2010 Formula One World Championship,' a Tuesday afternoon statement from Hinwil reads. 'The team expects to line up on the grid for the first race of the 2010 season.'
