Nakajima: Now or never

Nakajima: Now or never

20 September 2009

Williams racer Kazuki Nakajima has admitted that, to stand any chance of securing a drive next year, he must turn his promising performances into points finishes.

The driver market for 2010 will see very few drivers remaining with their current teams; Williams team-mate Nico Rosberg is hotly tipped for a move to Mclaren or another Mercedes-engined outfit and reserve driver Nico Hülkenberg is expected to make the step up to F1 having won the GP2 title at the first time of asking.

"Nobody has made any moves (in the driver market)," Nakajima explained. "If people make moves, then the rest will follow." Kazuki hints at the expected domino effect of any decision Fernando Alonso will make in the coming months.

Kazuki is still part of the Toyota Driver Programme, and feels his future is in their hands, but reiterated his first option would be to stay with AT&T Williams, no matter what engine the team use.

"The team have become a home from home for me," he added. "I hope to stay. My performances have improved this year and the car's improved also. The results just haven't happened. It's frustrating."
