Briatore 'distraught' with hearing outcome

Briatore 'distraught' with hearing outcome

22 September 2009

Former Renault Team Principal Flavio Briatore has given a first, brief reaction to the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing of Monday which saw the team face the sport's governing body and the conclusion of 'Crashgate'. It has now been suggested that the Italian may go one step further and sue the FIA.

With Briatore having been found guilty of developing the plan that saw driver Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crash to aid team-mate Fernando Alonso in last year's Singapore Grand Prix, Briatore has received a lifetime ban from Formula One as well as any other FIA championship.

On top of this, reports from the Football League on Tuesday have explained that, following a ban from a sport's governing body, Briatore's role as joint-owner of the Queens Park Rangers football club is now also under threat.

"I am distraught," the 59-year-old is quoted as saying by Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, with legal action against the FIA remaining a possibility. Briatore last won Drivers' and Constructors' titles with Alonso and Renault in 2006.
