Häkkinen: The show must go on

22 September 2009

Former double World Champion Mika Häkkinen believes that Formula One must now put behind it the controversy of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix and concentrate on this year's event in Marina Bay. The Finn is confident that those involved have been dealt their relevant punishments and that the sport should climb back onto its feet.

With F1 having been under the media spotlight for seemingly all the wrong reasons again recently, Häkkinen is sure that the sport's future as a whole remains in tact. "The show must go on," the 1998 and 1999 Champion told Reuters.

"People who have done wrong need a penalty and then life has to go on." Mika came perilously close to losing his life in Australia fourteen years ago, so naturally disagrees with a deliberate crash, but is certainly not holding 'Crashgate' against the sport.

"Forget it and concentrate on the future," he concluded. "I think what is important now is that a great Grand Prix is coming."
