Eddie Jordan has voiced his opinion on the outcome of the Renault/Piquet hearing in typically frank fashion. The Irishman, team owner turned television pundit, believes that the French team escaped a more severe punishment as Formula One cannot afford to lose another manufacturer after the departures of Honda and BMW.
Renault was handed a suspended ban from the sport by governing body the FIA on Monday, which will expire should an incident similar to 'Crashgate' not occur again before the end of the 2011 season.
"Renault made it easy for the FIA," Jordan told the BBC. "They came clean and got rid of the people involved. We don't know the full evidence that has been brought before the hearing but it's somehow proved that only certain people were involved."
Many pundits have also questioned why driver Nelson Piquet Jr. received immunity although Jordan hints at the Brazilian's full statement being the key to the truth of the matter and, with it, that the FIA can block any counter claims to avoid a long and drawn-out battle with the media.
