Sutil keen to hold station

22 September 2009

Force India's Adrian Sutil would like to remain with the team next year after enjoying several strong results for the Silverstone outfit in recent races. Making best use of a Valencia update for the Mercedes-powered VJM02, the team has become a genuine challenger for race wins.

Although many believe the form to be a side effect of the car suiting high-speed circuits such as Spa and Monza, Sutil believes this confidence boost has turned things around for the previously back-running team.

"I am proud of the team and I feel happy here," he told Autosport. "Now, with success, it is good to see smiles around the team so I will have to think twice before I leave this team." Sutil has been linked, along with every other German driver on the grid, with a move to a McLaren as pressure mounts on Heikki Kovalainen.

Force India's management team are likewise keen to hold on to the young German who has shown great potential in his seasons with the team but has so often been on the wrong side of any luck, including two notable collisions with Kimi Räikkönen. Simon Roberts, Chief Operating Office of Force India, states: "To get through to Q3 so easily and to be good in it has ticked a whole load of boxes."
