Renault has ended its case for criminal action again Nelson Piquet Jr. and Sr. following the outcome of the 'Crashgate' hearing in Paris this week. The team had launched the investigation against the Brazilians although, as the Enstone squad withdraws its case, former Team Principal Flavio Briatore is reported to be going ahead.
The FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) decided on Monday that Renault F1 was not directly to blame for the race-fixing scandal of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, handing the entrant a ban suspended for two-years whereas Briatore is expelled from the sport for life with departed chief engineer Pat Symonds receiving the same punishment but for a period of only five years.

"We are keen to put this whole affair behind us," Renault lawyer Ali Malek has said. "Criminal proceedings were brought in France but these have been withdrawn; the criminal proceedings were filed on 11 September for attempted blackmail and false accusations - and it was filed by Renault F1 and Briatore personally against the Piquets.
"I am told that the French counsel wrote to the public prosecutor last Friday, seeking to withdraw the criminal complaint on behalf of Renault F1. It is my understanding that the second complainant - of Briatore - has not been withdrawn but it is our intention to draw the line and to do everything we can to put this sad history behind us."
