Ecclestone extends Donington deadline

Ecclestone extends Donington deadline

24 September 2009

Formula One commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has said Donington Park has been granted more time to show his Formula One Management (FOM) company that they have the sufficient funds in place to host next year's British Grand Prix.

With Donington's place on the 2010 schedule having seemingly been under threat, its race was confirmed on Monday as governing body the FIA placed the Leicestershire venue on the calendar.

"Their problem is a financial one - it is them getting the money together," Ecclestone was quoted as saying by Reuters, when talking of circuit leaseholders Donington Ventures Leisure Limited (DVLL). "Everything was done and ready and when this crisis arrived the banks pulled the plug on them.

"It (the deadline) was the end of September but I think we may extend it a bit, by two or three days. I think we have given them until October 3."
