Klien testing new BMW aero package at Vairano

24 September 2009

Christian Klien has completed a day of straight-line testing at the wheel of a BMW Sauber F1.09. The team's test and reserve driver gathered data on the new development package, comprising of a new front wing, more deeply undercut sidepods, a further developed double diffuser, a modified rear wing and a new gearbox for the team.

Although circuit testing during the season is not allowed in 2009, teams are able to perform serveral straight-line runs for aerodynamic reasons.

"These straight-line tests are an important indicator," said Austria's Klien. "Up to that point, all developments and calculations were solely done in the windtunnel; only when you can compare the data with that collected during track running do you really get an impression as to whether the updates work, as predicted by the computers."
