
Formula One commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has admitted that he supports Jean Todt as the contest to become FIA President draws to a close. With Max Mosley set to stand down next month, Todt is up against former World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen.
With Todt boasting far more motorsport management experience but 1981 WRC Champion Vatanen a decade's worth of knowledge from the European Parliament, it is down to governing body the FIA's many member groups in various countries to vote for the new President.

"I have known Jean for many years," Ecclestone, owner of Formula One Management (FOM), said in Singapore of the former Ferrari Team Principal. "He is a most reliable, gifted and trustworthy person; he's determined and dedicated to whatever goals he sets himself and I admire and respect him greatly for everything he's achieved.
"The FIA needs a President who is strong, capable and with experience at the highest levels of motorsport; Jean is by far the most knowledgeable and capable candidate for this vitally important role - I hope everybody will support him." Ecclestone's point of view is shared by current President Mosley, who is an open supporter of the Frenchman.
