BMW's Nick Heidfeld enjoyed the weekend's first night of running in Singapore on Friday as Formula One visits the country for the second time. With an improved F1.09 car this weekend, the German wound up fourth quickest in the second 90-minute practice period.
With team-mate Robert Kubica also in the top ten, a lap time of 1:49.098 was sufficient for a P4 spot for 'Quick Nick'. "I really enjoy the track; it's great fun driving here although it's still bumpy and was extremely dusty," Heidfeld commented after practice.
"I think our performance doesn't look too bad although we had several types of problems in the first session; besides having to change the gearbox, there was also trouble with the floor and tyre pressures.
"For the second session, we got several things right - I did my fastest lap quite early on new tyres and was leading for a long time until some of the other drivers did their runs on new tyres towards the end of the session."
