As predicted by some, Force India was unable to maintain its pace of low downforce tracks such as Spa or Monza as Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi wound up 12th and 18th in second practice in Singapore on Friday night. Despite this, the German is still confident that a points finish is a realistic target.
Having achieved his best ever Formula One result in the shape of fourth place in Italy a fortnight ago, Sutil had a less easy time on the first night of running on the Marina Bay street circuit this weekend.
"I was quite pleased with the car but it's difficult to judge the rear grip as we're still having some problems with graining," Sutil commented, noting that the issue occurs more with the green-striped (Super Soft) Bridgestone compound. "We still have a lot of work to do but it's only Friday; I think we can do much better and get a bit closer to the front."
Adrian added that both traffic on the narrow circuit plus a less than ideal balance for the JVM02 did not assist proceedings. "I think we were on a good learning curve and tomorrow will be much, much better," he stressed. "We've got a lot of work to do as we're not spot-on with the balance just yet - but we have all night to think about that!"
