McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has completed the fastest lap in Singapore on Saturday evening. The Briton completed the fastest lap of the weekend so far in 1:47.632 and saw championship contenders Vettel, Barrichello and Button end in 2nd, 7th and 14th places.

The 60-minute free practice session started at 7pm local time in Singapore with the flood lights turned on as night falls in Asia.

Champion Hamilton topped most of the session although Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel also showed his speed ahead of Sunday's second Singapore Grand Prix; the German topped the timesheets for a while but eventually had to settle behind Hamilton.

The final free practice session of the weekend did not see any major incidents. A few drivers missed their braking points but were all able to finish their respective laps. Qualifying promises to be interesting this evening with a number of pilots being able to win pole position.

Qualifying for the 2009 Singapore Grand Prix will begin at 10pm local time (BST +7 / GMT +8). The progress of the grid-deciding session can be followed live on GPUpdate.net.
