Räikkönen hoping for Sunday Safety Car
26 September 2009 / Results / PhotosFerrari's Kimi Räikkönen hopes to see the deployment of the Safety Car in the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday night as the Finn will be battling from a disappointing thirteenth position on the grid.
Having been considered a top five contender, Kimi starts one place behind championship leader Jenson Button's Brawn after being unexpectedly eliminated in the second phase of the qualifying hour.
"I'm surprised, we were three tenths - maximum - out of the top ten and it's very close here between a group of six cars," he told reporters. "This circuit is not as good for our car as maybe the last two."
Having finished on the podium in the last four races, the 2007 World Champion's task of repeating the feat will be far more difficult in Marina Bay. "This circuit is always hard to overtake on but there's always a chance of Safety Cars so maybe, with a little bit of luck, we can score some points," he concluded.
