Alonso thanks Briatore for dedication
27 September 2009 / Results / PhotosRenault's Fernando Alonso dedicated his podium in the Singapore Grand Prix to former Team Principal Flavio Briatore. With 'Crashgate' having dominated the news in the lead up to this year's race in Marina Bay, the Spaniard completed ensured a one-hundred percent podium record in Singapore with third place and Renault's first podium of the season.
Alonso's race began in an eventful manner, being forced off the racing line and the track at times in his duels with Mark Webber and Timo Glock."Because of the battle with Webber, I lost the position to Timo and then I was behind him for the rest of the race," Fernando explained.
Alonso was confident in his abilities to finish ahead of the Toyota and believes that his hopes were dashed at that early stage but, given the situations surrounding the Renault team at the moment, the Spaniard summarised by dedicating the podium to former colleague Briatore and declaring the team 'happy with a podium'.
