Podium man Glock excited about Japan

28 September 2009

Timo Glock was delighted to pick up his second podium finish of the season in Singapore on Sunday night. The German, who last finished in the top three in Malaysia, equalled a career-best of second place from the Hungarian Grand Prix of last year and now looks forward to his second Formula One trip to Suzuka in Japan.

Then dubbed 'Tim O'Glock' by the Irish team, Timo made his first and so far only Suzuka excursion in 2004 after replacing Giorgio Pantano at Jordan. Now, half a decade down the line, the Toyota driver looks forward to the race in Japan.

"Suzuka is a really special circuit," Glock commented. "It's very fast and the first sector is just unbelievable in a Formula One car, a really enjoyable experience. It is five years since I drove an F1 car at Suzuka but the layout hasn't changed and I'm sure the fans will still make it a pleasure to race there."

The only figure-of-eight circuit on the 17-race 2009 calendar, Suzuka has witnessed several championship-deciding moments in the past and could do again this weekend for the first time since 2003. "It's not an easy track to drive and you really have to be completely concentrated to get the best lap time - but that makes it so much fun!" Timo went on.

"It was fantastic to finish on the podium in Singapore. I would love to be challenging for the podium again at Toyota's home race, to give something back to our team; that would be a great result - standing on the podium for Toyota in Japan would be perfect."
