Massa back behind the wheel

Massa back behind the wheel

29 September 2009

Felipe Massa drove a go-kart in Brazil on Monday for the first time since his shocking accident on Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. The Ferrari driver, who is expected to make a full recovery ahead of next season, drove seven laps of the Granja Viana circuit just outside São Paulo.

Having made a fortunate recovery following his near-death experience in qualifying at the Hungaroring, Massa donned a crash helmet for the first time in two months this week. Felipe will drive the kart several more times next week before making his way to Ferrari's Maranello factory in order to use the Formula One simulator.

Dino Altmann, personal doctor of Massa, and friends were present with the Paulista, who reported 'no pain or discomfort' after the short stint on the kart. The outing acted as a small warm-up for Massa, who will be hosting his annual 'Challenge of the Stars' karting event in November, to which several fellow F1 stars are expected to attend.
