Seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher has welcomed Fernando Alonso into the team for which he will be driving for at least the next three seasons. Spaniard Alonso's long-awaited announcement to join Ferrari came on Wednesday, as he partners Brazil's Felipe Massa for the first time in 2010.
With Schumacher having joined Ferrari in 1996 before going on to clinch five consecutive world titles between 2000 and 2004, the German remains in an advisory role but is delighted to be working with the man who beat him to the 2006 Drivers' crown.
'Fernando with Ferrari, that's something I like a lot,' Schumacher wrote on his website. 'I was involved from the very beginning in this decision, and I always liked the idea. I am sure Fernando will feel well with us, and I can only say: Welcome, Fernando!'
