Fernando Alonso has been in the headlines as the most sought after driver in Formula 1 this week, as his decision to move to Ferrari was finalised for 2010. It was back to work as usual this weekend for the Spaniard though in an eventful qualifying session, which will see him line up twelfth at Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

"It was a very strange qualifying session," the Spaniard began by echoing the sentiments of BMW's Nick Heidfeld, "the track conditions were good and all the drivers were pushing hard, but there were lots of incidents. It's a shame to have missed Q3 as the yellow flags came out in the final stages of Q2."

Alonso was called before the stewards after having set a fast sector time whilst under yellow flag conditions but should not receive a penalty after having returned to the pits immediately to resolve the situation. "I explained I had little visibility with the dust Buemi left whilst spinning into the gravel, I avoided debris and immediately slowed down to return to the pits."

Alonso confirmed he has his mind firmly on the race and hopes to improve on his position in the race tomorrow to collect points for Renault.
