Toyota's Timo Glock will miss the Japanese Grand Prix after crashing heavily in qualifying on Saturday. The German, on the team's home weekend, ploughed into the tyre barriers at the final corner of the lap before being airlifted to hospital.
Having missed both practice sessions on Friday after picking up air conditioning flu, Glock - who has been replaced by test driver Kamui Kobayashi - returned to the cockpit on Saturday although an impact at approximate speeds of 150 miles per hour put paid to the unfortunate driver's weekend at Suzuka.

"We tried everything to be fit for the race but in the end it is not possible," a disappointed Timo commented. "It's a pity to miss Toyota's home race and I'm annoyed that this has happened.
"I want to say thanks to my crew because they worked all night to fix the damage and get it ready for the race; they did a great job but unfortunately I can't race - however, I am sure I will be back in Brazil."
Timo is believed to have 'wounded' his left leg and underwent precautionary x-rays on Saturday as a result. Toyota's sole runner, Jarno Trulli, starts from second on the grid in Japan.
